Call for Paper

Call for Papers on the Value of Safety & Health to Businesses

It is conceptually agreeable that, just as there are many factors involved in any accident or incident, the value of an effective safety and health program is also multi-faceted and multi-beneficial. Yet, even though many business leaders and safety and health professionals understand that a good safety and health program is important to the overall success of the organization, they continue to search for consistent evidence and/or methods to collect data to validate this belief.

In an effort to promote studies that address the value of safety and health initiatives to businesses, the editors of the Journal of Safety Research along with the U.S. National Safety Council, the American Society of Safety Engineers, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, and the Robert W. Campbell Award, in collaboration with the World Health Organization, issue a call for papers that report the results of field research, empirical studies, evaluations, case studies, or other research methods developed to identify evidence, demonstrate trends, and uncover other research showing the intrinsic value of investing in sound safety and health systems. The objective is to determine the overall effect that safety and health initiatives have on quality of life of the workforce and overall sustainable well-being of these companies.

The studies should conform to accepted scientific procedures, including the use of quantitative and qualitative measures, when appropriate. The editors are interested in inviting submissions on all topics related to this subject, particularly those manuscripts covering the following topics:

  • Safety and health as a business performance indicator
  • Effective economic safety and health evaluation tools
  • The dynamic impact of safety and health function on other business operations
  • The value of safety and health in building a quality workforce

Whether the study was successful or not, it should report the results in such a way as to provide the most useful guidance to safety and health researchers and practitioners. Papers should be submitted to the editor in the usual format as described in the “Information for Contributors” on the inside back cover. Please indicate in your cover letter that the article is in response to the “Value of Safety and Health to Businesses” call for papers. Papers will be peer reviewed .
